In this extraordinary first conference offered at the beautiful new Chi Center in Galisteo, New Mexico, Master Mingtong Gu leads qigong exercises and shares what qigong is about.  George and Sedena Cappannelli, the founders of AgeNation and Empower New Mexico, have teamed up with the Chi center to offer inspiring, informative talks by Andrew Harvey, Joan Borysenko, Judith Orloff and other luminaries, as well as a fabulous concert on Saturday night with Robert Mirabal, Consuelo Luz, Tess Yong, and Michael Kott. Episode #207 | Ashton Applewhite | Author | "This Chair Rocks"

Of all of the “isms”…racism, sexism, ageism is the only ism that is a prejudice against our own future selves, and has the dubious distinction of being the only ism related to a universal condition. It takes root in denial of the fact that we are going to grow old.

This Chair Rocks: a Manifesto Against Ageism by Ashton Applewhite is a call to arms not just for older people, but for society as a whole, to see ageing as an empowered, perhaps wisdom stage of life, rather than a decline. PUSH Back! Applewhite says, “reject the old/young binary. Reaching out over divisions of race and class as well as age, and acknowledging our shared humanity, is a radical act.” This book is full of stuff that is "hidden in plain sight." Rather than to embrace the term "ageless" t is far better to think of ourselves as "agefull,"

the accretion of alll of our decades.  As Annie Lamott says reviewing the book, "we contain all of the ages we have ever been."

Author and activist Ashton Applewhite has been recognized by the New York Times, National Public Radio, and the American Society on Aging as an expert on ageism. She blogs at This Chair Rocks, speaks widely, has written for Harper’s and Playboy, and is the voice of Yo, Is This Ageist?  Ashton’s work is a call to wake up to the ageism in and around us, embrace a more accurate and positive view of growing older, and push back against the forces that frame it as decline.
