Donald Byrd is considered one of the most important choreographers in modern dance. He attended both Yale and Tufts University, but ultimately dropped out of school to pursue his passion for dance full-time in New York City. He later graduated from Tufts University while still managing to work with multiple prestigious dance companies around the world.
He is known for The Harlem Nutcracker (1996) and was nominated for a TONY award for his choreography in The Color Purple (2006). Byrd was a choreographer for Santa Fe Stages.
